Dr MacEwen, a distinguished eye surgeon and consultant
ophthalmologist, was the first eye surgeon in Scotland
to use the excimer laser in the correction of visual
disorders. Since 1993, he has carried out almost 5000
successful treatments.

Dr Takis Kalognomas MD
FRCS GMC No: 3221372
Dr Kalognomas trained as an Ophthalmologist in Britain
where he qualified as a Registrar in 1991. He attained
the position of Consultant Ophthalmologist in 1993 and
is currently on the Specialist Register.
He worked within the NHS until 2001 developing
his technique to convert to phacoemulsification cataract
surgery and has carried out around 4,000 procedures.
He is also experienced in carrying out clear lens extraction,
astigmatic keratotomy and phakic IOL's.
Since entering private practice he has
devoted his attention to the sub-speciality of refractive
surgery. He is the Medical Director of the London Eye
Academy.
He is experienced in using both theTechnolas
217 and the MEL-70 Excimer Lasers to perform refractive
surgery. He has participated in numerous Ophthalmic
Symposia courses and has been teaching LASIK and phaco
cataract surgery. He has carried out over 5,000 LASIK
procedures.

Dr Lorrimer Esselaar

Dr Esselaar completed his training in ophthalmology
at the university of Stellenbosch in Cape Town, South
Africa, where he worked for 12 years, holding the positions
of:
a) Senior Consultant Specialist
b) Senior Lecturer
c) Head, Medical Retinal Unit
d) Chairman, Undergraduate Ophthalmology Teaching Program
e) MB ChB Ophthalmology Lecturer, Tutor, Course Coordinator
and Block Chairman
f) MMed (Ophth) Lecturer and Medical and Surgical Supervisor
Dr Esselaar has extensive experience
in a wide range of ophthalmic surgical procedures and
has carried out over 1,200 LASIK procedures in the last
2 years.
Before coming to the United Kingdom,
Dr Esselaar spent 3 years working as a specialist and
Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at the private
Royal Hospital of the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam.
He has been on the Specialist Register
of the General Medical Council in the United Kingdom
since 1999.
